Assess a **SaaS product’s architectural fit** by testing whether its actual integration and operational behavior meets the solution’s constraints. This is a fit-gap exercise for a candidate product, not merely a general decision about building or buying software.

## Start with an integration map

For each connection, record the required behavior, the vendor’s documented capability, evidence from a trial and any remaining gap. Separate hard blockers from preferences before scoring options; several nice features cannot compensate for a mandatory capability that is missing.

## Areas to verify

- **Identity:** sign-in integration, account provisioning, role mapping and timely access removal.
- **Data:** ownership, supported locations, export completeness, identifiers and deletion behavior across copies.
- **Interfaces:** API coverage, quotas, pagination, webhook replay, version policy and sandbox limitations.
- **Operations:** support escalation, service commitments, audit visibility and recovery responsibilities.
- **Exit:** the practical ability to retrieve data and reconnect consumers if the product is replaced.

A CRM demo can show customer records while hiding a critical gap: its export endpoint may omit attachments, or its webhook may provide no historical replay. Test a representative record with attachments and simulate a missed event. Estimate catch-up time using the actual API quota and expected daily volume.

## Decision and pitfalls

Classify each gap as configuration, adapter work, accepted limitation or blocker. Assign an owner and include ongoing support costs for any adapter. Recheck capabilities against the proposed subscription and contract, because a trial environment may expose different features.

In an interview, show how evidence changes the recommendation. A vendor checklist with every box marked “yes” is weak if no one tested the business-critical path.
