Step back into the golden age of PC gaming with Minesweeper, the ultimate test of logic and nerves. Whether you remember it as the classic Windows distraction or you are discovering it for the first time, Minesweeper remains one of the most intellectually stimulating puzzle games ever created. Your mission is simple: map out the hidden mines without blowing yourself up!

What is Minesweeper?

Minesweeper is a single-player puzzle video game that dates back to the 1960s, though it became a household name in the 1990s. The game features a grid of clickable squares, with "mines" scattered hidden throughout the board. Success in Minesweeper isn't about luck—it's about using the numbers provided to deduce exactly where the danger lies.

How to Play Minesweeper Online

Our online version offers a crisp, clean interface with the classic gameplay mechanics you know and love. No installation is required; just open your browser and start sweeping.

The Basic Rules

  • Click to Reveal: Click any square to see what is underneath.

  • The Numbers: If you reveal a number, it tells you how many mines are touching that specific square (including diagonals).

  • Flags: If you are certain a square contains a mine, Right-Click (or long-press on mobile) to place a flag.

  • Winning: You win the game by revealing all safe squares. If you click a mine, the game is over!

Choosing Your Difficulty

We offer three standard modes to suit your skill level:

  • Beginner: A $9 \times 9$ grid with 10 mines. Perfect for learning the ropes.

  • Intermediate: A $16 \times 16$ grid with 40 mines. A true test of concentration.

  • Expert: A $30 \times 16$ grid with 99 mines. Only for the most dedicated logic masters.

Master the Minefield: Strategy and Tips

Minesweeper is a game of patterns. Once you recognize them, you can clear boards in record time.

Identify "Gimme" Patterns

Look for squares where the number of hidden adjacent squares matches the number on the tile. For example, if you see a "1" and there is only one unrevealed square touching it, that square must be a mine. Flag it immediately!

Use the "1-2-1" Pattern

The 1-2-1 pattern is a classic. If you see "1-2-1" against a flat wall of unrevealed squares, the squares touching the "1s" are always mines, and the square touching the "2" is always safe. Learning these shortcuts will significantly improve your speed.

When to Guess

In rare cases, you may encounter a "50/50" situation where logic cannot help you. In these moments, it’s best to make your guess early so you don't waste time clearing the rest of the board only to lose at the very end.
